First up, the 3D Pokedex app has been updated for those of you who have a 3DS but haven't checked in a while. The update adds more functionality to the AR Viewer, but you have to manually run the update.
Next up, our friends at ZeldaInformer are running another League Challenge. If you're in to competitive battling, make sure to sign up and get started!
Then, the official Pokemon site has spun off a sweepstakes to win TCG Boxes and a grand prize including a 3DS. There are 25 winners each week, and you can register yourself once a day. The grand prize is drawn next month.
In news that I'm sure has Frost absolutely thrilled, Junichi Masuda posted to his Twitter yesterday hinting at the intent to release updated version of the Gen III titles, Ruby and Sapphire. He says the games are important to him and he wants to do well. While not an official announcement, it's certainly something worth noting.
Lastly, because myself and the rest of the staff have been so busy lately (and likely will continue to be), I've promoted two of our forum staff, Serpentsounds and Rhapsody, to the rank of Reporter and given them the ability to write up news posts for the main site here. They'll do a better job of posting news in a timely fashion than I can. Congrats to the both of them.
A Gen III remake would be really cool, since Pokemon Ruby was my first Pokemon game.It was also my first Pokemon game! I would love a remake! that would just make my life complete!I knew it! There will be R/S remakes!Sadly I probably wont get the games because I'm busy with life right and don't have time to play it
I just hope that if and when they come out it'll be for the DS and not exclusively for the 3DS. :\NOOOOOOOO!!!!! Grey MUST come out BEFORE the remakes!!! Or it will disrupt the fragile time-line!!! (It would still be nice, though. I like Hoenn)On the TCG side of things, I've been entering the contest every day. (I want a 3DS sooo bad. But, there are things more important than that at this moment.)
@Poke-piper, The third of gen 5 probably will come first. I personally am curios how Hoenn would look updated.OMG RUBY/SAPPHIRE REMAKES!!! YES!! Can't wait to buy one!! :DSecret Bases! Lava Cookies! Team Magma and Team Aqua! The original Emerald Battle Frontier! :)
...I wonder if we'll get the Hoenn Contests back, or if there'll be something new?
And congrats to serperntsounds and Rhapsody!
The Battle Frontier could also be taken to the Internet, with the ability to play with a friend online in one of the original seven facilities. Although, to be honest, I don't really care about that because I never battle over the web.
The Hoenn plotline was silly, but hopefully it could be altered to make it more sensible. (Who on earth would want to alter the balance of land and sea?!)
@Twilight Hylian Old Pokemon being available in the current games didn't stop them from making HGSS... at all.I think once the DS Lite is discontinued (whenever that will be), that's when we'll start really hearing rumblings about RS remakes, because the hardware that's needed to transfer Pokemon from Gen III will no longer be part of Nintendo's focus. But since the DS Lite still probably has a year or two left in the tank, and we don't know if Gray will come before or after RS remakes, I'm thinking it'll be at least 2014 or 2015 until we'll actually see remakes though.
@Twilight Hylian Well if you think about 5th Gen now, it has no access to needed things for certain Pokemon. Like Tutor moves/TMs only found in DPPt or HGSS. With a 3rd Gen remake they can make these types of things accessible with out a 4th Gen game.More than likely next year we'll be seeing stuff for Pokemon Gray(If it will exist, More than likely it will be as it follow the pattern) And possibly in following years after that we'll see signs of these RS remakes. I can't wait that long though >.<
@Porygon 3 but for the same reason it's kind of awkward because it doesn't feel like it needs to be remade since we already played the original version.I must agree with Biosci. They put it in a perfect way.It would be great if they remade RS! Gen III had my favorite batch of starters, as well as my top 3 favorite pokemon (absol, blaziken, flygon). :)But I'm still waiting for Pokemon Stadium 3DS, to be honest.
@Flannery - Just wondering, when you played Ruby or Sapphire (or Emerald), did you name your character Flannery and end up fighting yourself for the fourth badge? :DI know a lot of people that started with RB aren't huge fans of RS. Nostalgia plays a huge factor in our likes and dislikes of a game, especially for remakes. Personally, I'm kind of looking forward to remakes (which I think everyone knew were coming), since my first game was Sapphire. But at the same time, I wonder whether my fond memories of a game that started a long-time obsession for me will ruin the remakes for me, or ruin the originals (if the remakes are awesome). Also, inb4 the originals were already ruined.Congrats to Rhapsody and Serpentsounds!!
I am SO excited for Ruby/Sapphire remakes. Favorite games; a remastered version just seems amazing. One bad thing though: Ive already transferred all of my Ruby/Sapph Pokemon to HG, soon to White. I dont want to have doubles of every Hoenn Pokemon. Meh. @AphexThink about it this way. If HGSS had Gen IV mechanics despite taking place in the Johto region, then these remakes may have Gen V mechanics, meaning certain Hoenn Pokemon can learn Gen IV and V moves. (i.e. Blaziken: Brave Bird, Metagross: Zen Headbutt, Pelipper: Hurricane.) So in theory, not all of the Hoenn Pokemon in your two separate games will be excatly the same.@Emerald Master - Oh I see, I never though of it that way. Good point, maybe it wont be so bad.RUBY SAPHIRE=YUM
who cares teh f a bout grey anyways?
@mudkip ees awesome,I personally care about B/W/G more than R/S, and I find it most disturbing and off the cricket that you find R/S to be "YUM". It's great and all that you like R/S, but please, don't critisize someone else's game, just because you don't like it as much as they do.
i think the remakes will come out first just like emerald came after firered and leafgreen.I hope gre/ay is better than B/W cuz of the E4 it is kinda lame just look they have no items and I can wuup them all with resharam.
@Poke-piper But you have to admit, RSE is YUM. I hope it's that and not some crummy remake like Platinum. BW is awesome enough.@Yog, I have never gotten to play R/S/E, hence, I would prefer the trio (B/W/G) be completed before a remake. Also, Platinum was my first game. It has sentimental values to me, so please do not insult it. (P.S. It's not a remake of anything.)
I personally view Platinum as a remake of these little games called Diamond and Pearl, but I guess that's just me...@Frost, I consider them a trio (D/Prl/Plt), but I guess that's just me...Platinum is the director's cut, in the same vein as Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald. Not trying to offend, but just pointing out the relevant facts. They're still a trio, but one of them came out after the others, so... You can both be right! Yay compromise! :D/lolwut post
Thank you @rex09! A compromise! Perfect!Pokemon Gray would be 3DS or DS@Poke-piper Well, if you've never played RSE, that would make sense. In fact, I actually like Black and White more, but I just don't want a remake that would be too much the same as those two if they could make remakes for Ruby/Sappire instead.Crystal/Emerald/Platinum/Grey are not remakes. As the term implies, remakes necessarily involve re-making something i.e. starting from scratch, as you would have to do in trying to make a Gen 3 game (which used 2D maps) to a Gen 5 game (which would use 3D maps). C/E/P/G, by comparison, are just edits of the existing games. A lot of the work is already done before they even start.
In any case, I don't think this is a matter of choosing which one to devote attention to. They could make both Grey (or whatever it ends up being called) and the RS remakes simultaneously, since they did the same thing with HG/SS and B/W.
A lot of things gets the tag of "enhanced remake" for adding less content than the third versions do to the original duo of games. Nearly all of the GBA Final Fantasy games are considered "remakes" rather than "ports" because they added some new content. Therefore, in my eyes, the third versions of Pokemon games are remakes too because they're all basically the template of the first two games with like 10% added new content. Why is yellow always forgotten...I tend to like the special editions for the additional story line and bonus features. (Special pikachu edition was yellow's subtitling so that is what I've assumed the rest would technically be.)
Congrats Rhapsody and Serpents sounds:)I'm pretty sure that the consensus is that Yellow is the third version that changed the most from the original two games. I would still lump it into the "remake" category though since it's just R/B with a few anime references.@Poke-piper Grey does NOT have to come out before. FRLG came out after Emerald did.
And I just noticced, but the cool Halloween theme is back up.@Yog, I know it doesn't, I was just stating my opinion in a comical, laughable form.Speaking of Grey/Gray, wasn't it supposed to not happen? Weren't they saying pretty definitively a while ago that there wasn't going to be a third game for Black/White?They already registered a web domain for the title "Pokemon Gray". however, this doesn't mean for sure that there will be gray version for sure. This just means that nintendo have registered the name Gray so they are planning it..@damaia All I found on that matter was a unconfirmed statement that had been double translated. If it would make nintendo money they probably will do it.I don't see why they wouldn't. For one thing, every generation up until now has had a director's cut (see discussion above). Secondly, as Shade2075 pointed out, there's money to be made with a Gray version. So in all reality, it would be stupid of them NOT to do so.I miss Red/Blue. Im going to dig my old lime green gameboy color out and start a new game. Dont know which one im going to play tho...I wish they could make a 6th generation with RS so that it would be a little different than before. i think that all of the pokemon we great intill gen 5 came out. It is a bunch of remakes of pokemon. why does the starts have to be fire, water, and grass anyways?@mason555 - Because that's, like, the holy trinity of Pokemon (type-wise, at least). But I would totally love seeing a wider variety or different set of starters, kind of like mystery dungeon where you could start with Riolu or Cubone. Of course, I'd prefer getting to PICK your starter rather than doing some personality test...I meant have 1 of each type and just pick one type.So from my research
Pokemon released ruby/sapphire in April of 2003
Pokemon released fire red/leaf green In january Of 2004
Nintendo released nintendo DS in November of 2004
Pokemon released emerald in may of 2005
Pokemon released diamond/Pearl in September of 2006
Pokemon released platinum in September 2008
Nintendo released DSI in early 2009
Pokemon released heart gold/soul silver in September of 2009
Pokemon released black/white on the 6 in march of 2011
Nintendo released 3DS on the 27 in march of 2011
Just looking at what I got here I think that pokemon will make one more DSI game like they did with emerald Seeing that going to the DSI to the 3DS is like the GB advanced to the DS.
just to rap this up.
