New year-long event: birthday Togekiss

Pokemon Events — 28 September, 2011

Togekiss

A new Pokemon event started this week to receive a special Togekiss. This Togekiss has the hidden ability Super Luck, which boosts its critical-hit rate. It will know the moves Extremespeed, Aura Sphere, Air Slash and Present.

This is a unique type of event in that you can only receive the Togekiss during the month of your birthday! First you need a Pokemon Trainer's Club account on Pokemon.com (click here to signup if you don't already have an account). Then simply log in and go to your message inbox on the month of your birthday to see instructions on how to obtain the Pokemon via Global Link.

Pokemon Black & White locations now online

Site Updates — 01 March, 2011

First, a belated Happy Birthday to Pokemon! The very first games were released 27th February, 1996 - making them 15 years old last Sunday! Here's to another 15 years of fun.

Now onto the main update. Earlier this week I quietly added Pokemon location data for the Unova region from the imminent games, Pokemon Black & White. I have spent the last few days working on improving the section as a whole and can now unveil the new guide!

Pokemon location guide

Instead of the hard to read tables of just Pokemon and encounter rates, we've merged much of it into one table. Most tables now only list the Pokemon once, displaying all the relevant conditions such as game version, time of day or season. Check it out and let us know what you think.

P.S. Pokemon Black & White are released this coming Friday in UK/Europe, and Sunday in USA/Canada! If you get stuck during the games, drop by our popular Q&A section PokeBase, where you can get your questions answered by our expert users.

A fiendish new design and some new content!

Site Updates — 22 October, 2011

Notice anything different recently? That's right, we've dressed up for Halloween! Just a little something I knocked up quickly, hope you like it :)

I have also added a few cool pages to the site recently. First up is the Events page. With the Pokemon Global Link events it's difficult to keep track of what's going on and how to get the special Pokemon or themes. So I've made a page that lists them all!

Pokemon Events page

I've added two nifty Pokemon tools: a moveset searcher and a type coverage checker. The first has been on the site for a while now but had a couple of problems. It's now fixed and working great! Just put in up to 4 moves you want, and it will tell you which Pokemon can learn them all!

Moveset searcher

I've loved the idea of a type coverage tool after I saw a similar page on PsyPokes.com. You input the elemental types of your attacking moves, and it shows you which Pokemon those types will not be very effective against.

Type coverage checker

P.S. to save you some time, the best 4-type combination is Ghost, Fighting, Ice and Ground :D

Complete Pokemon learnset guide now online!

Site Updates — 27 January, 2011

It's been a long time coming but finally we can unveil a big new section to Pokemon Database! On the moves section of every Pokemon's pokedex, you will see links to different generations under each table. This will take you to the appropriate page for that Pokemon.

So you can now, for example, see Generation III moves for Swampert if you are playing Emerald, or the scant 30 attacks that Golem can learn in Generation I.

Like the main Pokedex page, each table is tabbed where appropriate, if Pokemon learned slightly different moves across different games. For example, Dugtrio learned Tri Attack in Crystal but not Gold/Silver.

Last but not least, I have taken Diamond/Pearl moves off the main Pokedex pages to clean up the page a little, since most people will have now moved on to HG/SS and soon Black/White. In many cases they are identical to Platinum which is still listed for now.

Some official English names revealed, possibly the whole lot!

Pokemon Black & White — 14 January, 2011

Nintendo has revealed more Pokemon names from Black & White. But there has also been a leak of the supposed full list of English Pokemon names, though not 100% confirmed.

Gothiruselle is now Gothitelle, from goth and elle, a common suffix meaning feminine.
Ranculus is now Reuniclus, possibly based on homunculus describing humans.

Musharna keeps its name.

Confirmed ability names:
Dust-Proof is now Overcoat.
Sand Power is now Sand Force.
Sand Throw is now Sand Rush.

Black/White European release date confirmed

Pokemon Black & White — 10 January, 2011

The release date of Pokemon Black and Pokemon White has been revealed by Nintendo Magazine as March 4th, 2011 - two days before its American release! The release date for Australia and New Zealand has also been revealed, which is March 10th.

This is the first time a Pokemon game has been released in Europe before the US. It also means we will likely have all the Pokemon and move names earlier than expected, maybe by March 1st.

Our Black & White section

(Note: the countdown timer around the site has been left as the US date, since most of our readers are American.)

‘Next Destinies’ To Feature Special Etching on FA Cards; Three More EX Cards

A new press release for Next Destinies has revealed that the set’s full art cards will feature a “special etching treatment never done before in the TCG cards industry.” Perhaps since Japan’s ultra rares feature beautiful holo paper that isn’t used in America (perhaps because the paper is not available internationally), TPCi is trying to give us something else special instead.

Additionally, Reshiram-EX, Zekrom-EX, and Mewtwo-EX were revealed, as you can see below; click the thumbnails for larger images. So far, we know they as well as Kyurem-EX and Regigigas-EX will be in the set. Will the other three be Shaymin-EX, Kyogre-EX, and Groudon-EX?

Jump Festa Reveals Shocking New Spinoff Game: ‘Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition’

8:09 PM: Added a second trailer below which shows much more game footage. | 7:07 PM: Character info added below. | 7:00 PM: The official site is up! Love the ancient Japanese game music! | 6:25 PM: Okay, so. This will obviously be our side game for spring. Then I’m betting we’ll find out about “Pokemon Gray” in April or May and if Kyurem has a new Forme. Then the 15th movie will advertise “Pokemon Gray” since Kyurem is in it, and then Japan will get the game at the end of the year. Speculation based off previous trends, of course. Then if we’re getting R/S remakes, it’ll be in 2012 for Japan and 2013 for America. | 6:17 PM: Added more game screenshots from the exhibition below. | 5:47 PM: The official website is going to open in less than an hour! | 5:45: The game is also compatible with the 3DS. | 5:45 PM: Added video’s translations below, which reveals the region’s name (Ranse) and the legend of the game! | 5:30 PM: Added a video below courtesy of AAPF. Information forthcoming. | 5:00 PM: Added translations of the game screenshots thanks to Gin!

Pokemon: Nobunaga's Ambition

Breaking news! The Jump Festa trade show has just unveiled a new Pokemon crossover game: Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition. The DS game will be released in spring 2012 and is a collaboration between The Pokemon Company and Koei, the makers of Nobunaga’s Ambition.

Nobunaga’s Ambition is actually a RPG that is on multiple gaming platforms in Japan – according to Wikipedia, “Nobunaga’s Ambition is a series of turn-based grand strategy role-playing simulation video games, first released in 1983 by the Japanese video game developer Koei. Nobunaga’s Ambition takes place during the Sengoku period of feudal Japan. As the title suggests, the player is tasked with achieving the ultimate goal of warlord Oda Nobunaga: the conquest and unification of Japan. Selecting Oda Nobunaga is optional, however, as the player is also able to choose from a variety of other regional daimyos of the time.”

Obviously, this new DS game will use the above premise but with a Pokemon theme. It seems that it will be a Pokemon game that takes place in the past with ancient Pokemon Trainers, as you can see in the official game artwork below. The male and female players will start out with Eevee – they are the boy and girl in the pictures below. The names of the “bushou,” or military soldiers, are Oichi (the girl with the Jigglypuff), Mitsuhide (Articuno), Shingen (Groudon), and Kenshin (Mewtwo). As was already obvious, Nobunaga is the man with Zekrom. The official website promises that more bushou will be revealed in January. The region the game will take place in is called “Ranse.”

A video promoting the game is also on display at Jump Festa, as you can see below. Gin has translated its narration, which says, “Sharing your heart with Pokemon… bushou (military commanders) with hearts connected to Pokemon… a time when he (Nobunaga) held 17 castles… the Legend of Ranse, resurrected… the war of bushou and Pokemon begins!”

Pokemon: Nobunaga's Ambition

The image to the right (click it to enlarge it) contains actual screenshots from the game; in the top left screenshot, you can see various stats. From this information, it appears your success as a Pokemon Trainer determines your “military rank” within the game. Gin has translated the screenshot in the top left as “Power: 60, Intelligence: 60, Charm: 65, Containers: 4, Specialty: Normal (referring to a Pokemon’s type), Military Power: Full Speed, Tool: Potion.” The two bubbles in the screenshot say, “Instant move up” and “20 HP restored.” The next screenshot with the girl and Eevee says “Let’s go!” The final screenshot with the Piplup is how the overworld will look and says, “The water gate opened.”

As you can see in the game screenshots below, it appears you manipulate your Pokemon on the field, sort of like in Pokemon Ranger. You can order them to fire attacks and whatnot. The full extent of this system is currently unknown, as is the game’s overall goal. Other than what is posted here, we literally know nothing else about the game at this time, but hopefully more information will be revealed within the next month on Pokemon Smash and in CoroCoro magazine.

Announcing PokemonDb - a new Pokedex mobile web app!

Site Updates — 02 June, 2011

If you follow @pokemondb on Twitter you will have seen me mention a mobile app I have been working on for several weeks. Today I am proud to officially announce its release!

First things first - you can find the app, simply called PokemonDb, at the following address:

m.pokemondb.net

It is what's known as an offline web app - put simply, it's a website with some special features for mobile phones. When you load the app first time, it will download all the Pokedex data to your phone so that you can use the app whenever, wherever, without an internet connection. (This means we are free of binding restrictions from Apple et al.)

It works great on Apple iPhone, and it also works on Google Android phones, the latest Blackberries and all modern smartphones. See screenshots below.

To use the app, simply visit the link above from your phone's web browser (e.g. Safari on iPhone). You can also install it by tapping Add to Home Screen from the menu, or a similar option on other phones. It will then sit alongside your other apps!

I hope everyone enjoys this app! You can leave feedback, questions and suggestions over at Meta-Pokebase or via Twitter.

Yep, I'm still here!

General News — 16 December, 2011

I just realized that I haven't posted any news for absolutely ages! There hasn't been a huge amount of Pokemon things going on, but there are a few important events and announcements coming up! I'll run through them all here.

A new Pokemon game to be revealed!
Jump Festa, an annual anime/manga party, is due to make a big Pokemon announcement, rumoured to be the next Pokemon game coming out. If it turns out not to be a new game, the CoroCoro magazine has said they will reveal the new game in their January issue. We'll post as soon as we have the info.

Super Pokemon Rumble released in UK/Europe
The European version of Pokemon Rumble Blast was released at the beginning of this month. It's a lot of fun so if you have a 3DS I recommend it! I'll be adding some information to this site in the coming days.

Arceus event coming up
The one big bit of news I forgot to post (but was mentioned on Pokebase Meta) was a Pokemon.com online vote to pick the next event Pokemon to be released via Dream World. Although good choices like Celebi, Deoxys and Ditto (who has a great DW ability Imposter) were popular, many troll votes appeared for Pikachu, Mudkip and Magikarp. The final winner was Arceus! Dates yet to be revealed.

New C-Gear skins and other events
Victini is available over Mystery Gift and a Deerling C-Gear skin via the Global Link, password B8XME69W. I'll update the events page shortly with more details.

And finally, Merry Christmas! I hope everyone has a fantastic holiday season and that Santa brings you everything you want!

Pokemon Global Link logo

The Pokemon Global Link website, Nintendo's online portal for Pokemon Black & White and home of the Dream World, is now live! It was originally scheduled for March 30th but delayed due to the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

It was then scheduled to launch tomorrow, April 13th, but appears to have gone live earlier. In the Dream World you can put a Pokemon to sleep. When they return, they may have a different ability than when they left!

You can sign up now at http://en.pokemon-gl.com

Idol's Final Round + Wild Cards

Posted by Frost on 17 Sep 2011 at 9:07pm PDT Updated on 17 Sep 2011 at 9:15pm PDTIn the final semifinals group of Idol 3, the top ten advancing Pokemon were Dragonite, 3.9502 stars; Arcanine, 3.8518 stars; Lugia, 3.7805 stars; Blaziken, 3.7698 stars; Mew, 3.7512 stars; Lucario, 3.7491 stars; Scizor, 3.7416 stars; Gengar, 3.6984 stars; Sceptile, 3.6368; and Lapras, 3.6346. As is typical in later rounds, all of the advancing Pokemon had a lower average than they had in earlier rounds.

Just missing out in the finals (and as wild cards, since all ten of Group 1's Pokemon who were the closest to advancing had higher averages than the #11 Pokemon in Group 2) included Vaporeon, with 3.6116 stars; Gardevoir, with 3.6029 stars; Suicune, with 3.6017 stars; Jolteon, with 3.5831 stars; and Dragonair, with 3.5573 stars. The bottom five of the round were Togekiss, 3.1679; Totodile, 3.1288; Dratini, 3.1271; Heracross, 3.1208; and Haunter, 3.0885.

Since this is the last round of Idol and there are no more eliminations, I've decided to let the top thirty vote-getters in the third round take part in the finals. This in particular is because Venusaur and Zekrom were in the top TWENTY of round three based on overall average, but didn't make it into the final round, which was originally planned to have twenty Pokemon, because Group 1 had much higher averages than Group 2 overall.

So in addition to the twenty Pokemon who advanced from Round 3 automatically, added to the final rounds are the remaining Pokemon with the highest overall averages: Venusaur, Zekrom, Salamence, Latios, Articuno, Swampert, Feraligatr, Kyogre, Ho-oh and Zapdos.

Vote for your favorite! The winner of this round takes the whole game!

Arcanine
Blastoise
Dragonite
Espeon
Lapras
Latios
Mew
Umbreon

Any of these, por favor :O

Swampert FTW!

Let us have someone apart from you-know-who this time...

Since this is the last round, I'll write my ratings here:

5 stars: Blaziken, Flygon, Salamence, Rayquaza, Zekrom, Scizor, Venusaur, Tyranitar
4 stars: Umbreon, Sceptile, Metagross, Latios
2 Stars: Articuno
1 Star: Charizard, Blastoise, Frealigatr, Lucario, Mew, Typhlosion.

The rest are all 3 stars.

Im quite surprised though, only 1 Gen V pokemon...

Sweet! Venusaur is back in action!Hardly anyone got 5 stars from me this time, except Metagross.

Too bad Hydreigon didn't make it to the finals... :(

...Oh, and Lucario also got five stars from me. :) If Metagross doesn't win, I hope it's Lucario.everyone knows it will be charizard!!!!Espeon has this in the bag. I'd go for Scizor and Venasaur, too.

If there's one thing I wish, it's that Charizard doesn't win. He just can't.

I'm so fed up of Charizard being a certain winner that I gave it one star, even though I think it's pretty epic. :/
There's no point in holding a vote if everyone already knows who will win.

That's why I think this should be the LAST Psypoke Idol to feature every Pokemon from every region.

If there is ever a Generation VI, can we just vote on that generation by itself, rather than waste our time with a full-blown contest where every single Pokemon competes and we all know Charizard will win?!

This is the _third_ Psypoke Idol and Charizard hasn't won yet, so...I wasn't being strictly literal, Frost... my point is that it's far too easy to predict the top scorers.
For every round, it's easy to recognise the Pokemon that will definitely advance.

I'm tired of knowing that certain Pokemon will reach the finals every time.
I'm also fed up of there being so many competitors, most of which have competed before and will achieve similar standings at the end.

Psypoke Idol was great at first, but now it feels predictable and boring.
I'd like to see something new.

I stand by my word from at least five times before - next year, we should have a vote on our favourite shinies. :)
More stars for those that look better than the regular colours, fewer for those that look worse. That would be fantastic!!

Brand new sprite gallery added

Site Updates — 06 February, 2011

Today I am proud to unveil another new extensive section here at Pokemon Database - a brand new sprites gallery! Although we've had sprites for a while now, the section has been a bit lacklustre and sorely needing updates.

The pages have been redesigned with a neater table layout and we have sprites from every game, right back to Pokemon Red & Blue! You can follow the link from each Pokemon's pokedex page as normal, but we also have a new homepage for the sprites where you can choose your Pokemon:

New updates to Pokebase including Rate My Team section

Site Updates — 25 September, 2011

We've made some changes to Pokebase, our Q&A section. There is a new sub-forum called Battle Subway which is especially for Rate My Team questions. They were starting to clog up Pokebase and get in the way of other questions. (Note, older team questions will be moved to the new section soon!)

There are now more sorting options for questions such as by "most votes" or "most views". This is a good way to browse the site to find great questions and learn more about Pokemon! There is also a "flag" button next to posts. Please use this to report rule-breaking questions, spam/offensive posts or anything else that needs moderator attention.

Top members now have more privileges automatically. Users with over 10,000 points are able to edit questions and answers to help improve them. Users with less than 80 points are no longer able to vote, this is to prevent bad downvoting. (Later this will be changed so you can still upvote good posts.) Members can see a complete history of their questions and answers. This can be quite useful if you want to go back and select best answers for the questions you asked previously.

That's most of the changes! There will be more updates coming soon so stay tuned. I'd also like to take this moment to thank all our members for making Pokebase as great as it is!

TCG Giveaways, Tournaments, 3D Updates, and Twitter

TCG Giveaways, Tournaments, 3D Updates, and Twitter [permalink]Posted by Jigglypuff on 13 Oct 2011 at 5:55pm PDTNews has been pretty slow lately, which is fine by me because I've been incredibly busy.

First up, the 3D Pokedex app has been updated for those of you who have a 3DS but haven't checked in a while. The update adds more functionality to the AR Viewer, but you have to manually run the update.

Next up, our friends at ZeldaInformer are running another League Challenge. If you're in to competitive battling, make sure to sign up and get started!

Then, the official Pokemon site has spun off a sweepstakes to win TCG Boxes and a grand prize including a 3DS. There are 25 winners each week, and you can register yourself once a day. The grand prize is drawn next month.

In news that I'm sure has Frost absolutely thrilled, Junichi Masuda posted to his Twitter yesterday hinting at the intent to release updated version of the Gen III titles, Ruby and Sapphire. He says the games are important to him and he wants to do well. While not an official announcement, it's certainly something worth noting.

Lastly, because myself and the rest of the staff have been so busy lately (and likely will continue to be), I've promoted two of our forum staff, Serpentsounds and Rhapsody, to the rank of Reporter and given them the ability to write up news posts for the main site here. They'll do a better job of posting news in a timely fashion than I can. Congrats to the both of them.

A Gen III remake would be really cool, since Pokemon Ruby was my first Pokemon game.It was also my first Pokemon game! I would love a remake! that would just make my life complete!I knew it! There will be R/S remakes!

Sadly I probably wont get the games because I'm busy with life right and don't have time to play it

I just hope that if and when they come out it'll be for the DS and not exclusively for the 3DS. :\NOOOOOOOO!!!!! Grey MUST come out BEFORE the remakes!!! Or it will disrupt the fragile time-line!!! (It would still be nice, though. I like Hoenn)

On the TCG side of things, I've been entering the contest every day. (I want a 3DS sooo bad. But, there are things more important than that at this moment.)

@Poke-piper, The third of gen 5 probably will come first. I personally am curios how Hoenn would look updated.OMG RUBY/SAPPHIRE REMAKES!!! YES!! Can't wait to buy one!! :D

Secret Bases! Lava Cookies! Team Magma and Team Aqua! The original Emerald Battle Frontier! :)
...I wonder if we'll get the Hoenn Contests back, or if there'll be something new?

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET. I liked RSE, and they where the first games I actually owned, and are part of the best "WHAT THE HECK??" Christmas moments of my life. (others include gettin a DS, and a box full of pokemon booster packs). If this turns out to be true, I sure hope I have the cash to buy it....

And congrats to serperntsounds and Rhapsody!

@Shade2075, You're probably right. I am also curious how Hoenn would look updated.I liked Emerald better than Ruby/Sapphire, but I don't think that they should remake them. Through the Pal Park, specific HGSS in-game tasks, Hoenn Radio, and Unova Routes 13-16 all Gen III Pokémon can be acquired in Gen IV and V. Remakes of games that can still be interacted with are unnecessary, and NOA/TPC/GF can better utilize their time and resources, either on planning/creation of a 3rd Gen V game (will there be one even?) or on something else.I'm most interested in how the Battle Frontier in Emerald would be affected by the changes in move mechanics in Gen IV, and the introduction of new moves and Pokemon. With so many game-changers, it's worth revisiting the Frontier to see how different the strategies might be.

The Battle Frontier could also be taken to the Internet, with the ability to play with a friend online in one of the original seven facilities. Although, to be honest, I don't really care about that because I never battle over the web.

The Hoenn plotline was silly, but hopefully it could be altered to make it more sensible. (Who on earth would want to alter the balance of land and sea?!)

@Twilight Hylian Old Pokemon being available in the current games didn't stop them from making HGSS... at all.

I think once the DS Lite is discontinued (whenever that will be), that's when we'll start really hearing rumblings about RS remakes, because the hardware that's needed to transfer Pokemon from Gen III will no longer be part of Nintendo's focus. But since the DS Lite still probably has a year or two left in the tank, and we don't know if Gray will come before or after RS remakes, I'm thinking it'll be at least 2014 or 2015 until we'll actually see remakes though.

@Twilight Hylian Well if you think about 5th Gen now, it has no access to needed things for certain Pokemon. Like Tutor moves/TMs only found in DPPt or HGSS. With a 3rd Gen remake they can make these types of things accessible with out a 4th Gen game.

More than likely next year we'll be seeing stuff for Pokemon Gray(If it will exist, More than likely it will be as it follow the pattern) And possibly in following years after that we'll see signs of these RS remakes. I can't wait that long though >.<

@Porygon 3 but for the same reason it's kind of awkward because it doesn't feel like it needs to be remade since we already played the original version.I must agree with Biosci. They put it in a perfect way.It would be great if they remade RS! Gen III had my favorite batch of starters, as well as my top 3 favorite pokemon (absol, blaziken, flygon). :)

But I'm still waiting for Pokemon Stadium 3DS, to be honest.

@Flannery - Just wondering, when you played Ruby or Sapphire (or Emerald), did you name your character Flannery and end up fighting yourself for the fourth badge? :DI know a lot of people that started with RB aren't huge fans of RS. Nostalgia plays a huge factor in our likes and dislikes of a game, especially for remakes. Personally, I'm kind of looking forward to remakes (which I think everyone knew were coming), since my first game was Sapphire. But at the same time, I wonder whether my fond memories of a game that started a long-time obsession for me will ruin the remakes for me, or ruin the originals (if the remakes are awesome). Also, inb4 the originals were already ruined.

Congrats to Rhapsody and Serpentsounds!!

I am SO excited for Ruby/Sapphire remakes. Favorite games; a remastered version just seems amazing. One bad thing though: Ive already transferred all of my Ruby/Sapph Pokemon to HG, soon to White. I dont want to have doubles of every Hoenn Pokemon. Meh. @Aphex
Think about it this way. If HGSS had Gen IV mechanics despite taking place in the Johto region, then these remakes may have Gen V mechanics, meaning certain Hoenn Pokemon can learn Gen IV and V moves. (i.e. Blaziken: Brave Bird, Metagross: Zen Headbutt, Pelipper: Hurricane.) So in theory, not all of the Hoenn Pokemon in your two separate games will be excatly the same.@Emerald Master - Oh I see, I never though of it that way. Good point, maybe it wont be so bad.RUBY SAPHIRE=YUM

who cares teh f a bout grey anyways?

@mudkip ees awesome,

I personally care about B/W/G more than R/S, and I find it most disturbing and off the cricket that you find R/S to be "YUM". It's great and all that you like R/S, but please, don't critisize someone else's game, just because you don't like it as much as they do.

i think the remakes will come out first just like emerald came after firered and leafgreen.

I hope gre/ay is better than B/W cuz of the E4 it is kinda lame just look they have no items and I can wuup them all with resharam.

@Poke-piper But you have to admit, RSE is YUM. I hope it's that and not some crummy remake like Platinum. BW is awesome enough.@Yog, I have never gotten to play R/S/E, hence, I would prefer the trio (B/W/G) be completed before a remake.

Also, Platinum was my first game. It has sentimental values to me, so please do not insult it. (P.S. It's not a remake of anything.)

I personally view Platinum as a remake of these little games called Diamond and Pearl, but I guess that's just me...@Frost, I consider them a trio (D/Prl/Plt), but I guess that's just me...Platinum is the director's cut, in the same vein as Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald. Not trying to offend, but just pointing out the relevant facts. They're still a trio, but one of them came out after the others, so... You can both be right! Yay compromise! :D

/lolwut post

Thank you @rex09! A compromise! Perfect!Pokemon Gray would be 3DS or DS@Poke-piper Well, if you've never played RSE, that would make sense. In fact, I actually like Black and White more, but I just don't want a remake that would be too much the same as those two if they could make remakes for Ruby/Sappire instead.Crystal/Emerald/Platinum/Grey are not remakes.

As the term implies, remakes necessarily involve re-making something i.e. starting from scratch, as you would have to do in trying to make a Gen 3 game (which used 2D maps) to a Gen 5 game (which would use 3D maps). C/E/P/G, by comparison, are just edits of the existing games. A lot of the work is already done before they even start.

In any case, I don't think this is a matter of choosing which one to devote attention to. They could make both Grey (or whatever it ends up being called) and the RS remakes simultaneously, since they did the same thing with HG/SS and B/W.

A lot of things gets the tag of "enhanced remake" for adding less content than the third versions do to the original duo of games. Nearly all of the GBA Final Fantasy games are considered "remakes" rather than "ports" because they added some new content. Therefore, in my eyes, the third versions of Pokemon games are remakes too because they're all basically the template of the first two games with like 10% added new content. Why is yellow always forgotten...
I tend to like the special editions for the additional story line and bonus features. (Special pikachu edition was yellow's subtitling so that is what I've assumed the rest would technically be.)
Congrats Rhapsody and Serpents sounds:)I'm pretty sure that the consensus is that Yellow is the third version that changed the most from the original two games. I would still lump it into the "remake" category though since it's just R/B with a few anime references.@Poke-piper Grey does NOT have to come out before. FRLG came out after Emerald did.
And I just noticced, but the cool Halloween theme is back up.@Yog, I know it doesn't, I was just stating my opinion in a comical, laughable form.Speaking of Grey/Gray, wasn't it supposed to not happen? Weren't they saying pretty definitively a while ago that there wasn't going to be a third game for Black/White?They already registered a web domain for the title "Pokemon Gray". however, this doesn't mean for sure that there will be gray version for sure. This just means that nintendo have registered the name Gray so they are planning it..@damaia All I found on that matter was a unconfirmed statement that had been double translated. If it would make nintendo money they probably will do it.I don't see why they wouldn't. For one thing, every generation up until now has had a director's cut (see discussion above). Secondly, as Shade2075 pointed out, there's money to be made with a Gray version. So in all reality, it would be stupid of them NOT to do so.I miss Red/Blue. Im going to dig my old lime green gameboy color out and start a new game. Dont know which one im going to play tho...I wish they could make a 6th generation with RS so that it would be a little different than before. i think that all of the pokemon we great intill gen 5 came out. It is a bunch of remakes of pokemon. why does the starts have to be fire, water, and grass anyways?@mason555 - Because that's, like, the holy trinity of Pokemon (type-wise, at least). But I would totally love seeing a wider variety or different set of starters, kind of like mystery dungeon where you could start with Riolu or Cubone. Of course, I'd prefer getting to PICK your starter rather than doing some personality test...I meant have 1 of each type and just pick one type.So from my research

Pokemon released ruby/sapphire in April of 2003
Pokemon released fire red/leaf green In january Of 2004
Nintendo released nintendo DS in November of 2004
Pokemon released emerald in may of 2005
Pokemon released diamond/Pearl in September of 2006
Pokemon released platinum in September 2008
Nintendo released DSI in early 2009
Pokemon released heart gold/soul silver in September of 2009
Pokemon released black/white on the 6 in march of 2011
Nintendo released 3DS on the 27 in march of 2011

Just looking at what I got here I think that pokemon will make one more DSI game like they did with emerald Seeing that going to the DSI to the 3DS is like the GB advanced to the DS.
just to rap this up.

Nintendo Event Updates

Posted by Jigglypuff on 26 Oct 2011 at 8:54pm PDTSorry about the downtime today. Our hosts upgraded part of the server and things didn't get reset correctly.

Since then, I've gone and updated the Nintendo Events list with some corrections to older entries, and the current Global Link giveaways of Mamoswine and Banette.

Is Mamoswine going to be able to be obtain in the US?Thank for get psypokes back online. I only use psypokes and I kinda needed it last night but today is good to.@mason555 Mamoswine is possibly going to be obtained in the U.S.I got the Mamoswine a few days ago but unfortunately it's male.use a ditto on it you will have egg moves too catch it at i think giant cazem or somethingWhen full results of every round of Psypokes Idol will be posted on forum??@mason555 yes but then you cant pass on the ability unless it's femalebut if it is a ditto it would be forced on the egghow in the world do i get my togekiss it is my birthday month starting 15 minutes ago@mason555 Just log on to global link with you account and go to the dream world after they update to recognize the next month. Your lucky I wont be able to get one for long time.Hey I just found they have the vote to befriend a Pokemon on the main Pokemon site, just to let any who wants to know.@Shade2075 yeah just saw that now. Who are you going to vote for?Deoxys has my vote mainly because it would be the only gen 3 I don't have filling a very annoying gap in my pokedex.Hey I'm really sorry, I know this is 98% unrelated, but would it be too much to ask for you guys to include Dream World information in the Locations tab of each poke's dex entry? It'd be pretty kicka$$.For the next vote for DW thing, I almost know that it will be a certain Pokemon. See if you can guess: It starts with "A"...and ends with "rceus". Yup.That was Japan's first vote I doubt that it will be the same thing again. Are you kidding, Vote for DW Ditto. It's Amazing :'D@Biosci - Just looked at the Dream World ability, and indeed, that is awesome. x3I voted for Mew. Mostly because I don't have one and want one :o@rex09, great choice. I voted for Mew as well.Vote for Zapdos and Ditto and I will give you a stupid mew xDOr what ever Legends People are spazzing about xPIf anyone wants to send me a Darkrai and an Arceus so I can finish the Pokedex, I'd be happy to vote for yours... ;)

Off topic: I love how 5 of the last 6 posts (now 6 of the last 7) end with some kind of emoticon or w/e. :D

@frenchhorn95 i can give you both :] vote for ditto please :D@Shade2075 Yeah, but Arceus is even more harder (grammor phail) to get in the US, since we've had, what? Two events? An they've had about 5.just saw on the main site that they've announced the v-create victini for US and its dates for wifi.
@yog either would be nice but Arceus events have happened more recently and I can get one from a friend, Deoxys I can't. (also those five Deoxys events never happened for me because my local gamestop didn't run them like they should have.)Omg, Anyone who wants stupid Deoxys, Arceus, Mew, etc PM me and I'll give one to you. Global Link, Pokemon Center, and McDonald's Events

Global Link, Pokemon Center, and McDonald's Events [permalink]Posted by Jigglypuff on 21 Dec 2011 at 6:10pm PST Updated on 22 Dec 2011 at 5:13pm PSTFollowing up the recent game announcement, here's a few other upcoming events, mostly for Japan.

The Thick Fat Mamoswine that's been available throughout Europe is now available pretty much worldwide through the Global Link, with the password POKEMONDOTCOM.

A set of 6 Pokemon who evolve into Dragon-Types will be available beginning next month in Japan. Though there are 6 different Pokemon available, there are only 4 separate distributions (one each week) and a game can only receive one egg per distribution.

Shaymin will be distributed to Black and White games in Pokemon Center stores across Japan leading up to the release of the Dragon Egg event.

The final Pokemon distribution are a pair of Thundurus and Tornadus to celebrate their appearance in the anime. Depending on which version you're playing, you'll get the one normally not available, meaning you can also unlock Landorus.

Lastly, Japanese McDonald's stores will be giving away a set of Pokemon toys in their Happy Meals for the next few weeks.

I hope the McDonalds Pokemon toys come to the U.S.
If they do come to the U.S. I'll get all of the # of figures like last time (3That was the first time I was the first person to post on a new talkback (3Did Psypokes not hear about the Thundurus/Tornadus event or something?@Biosci Whoops, forgot to actually link them to an event. They're listed now! Thanks. It's the 12th day of christmas and my true love gave to me:
1 jolly badger, 2 Pikachu, 3 Tepig, 4 mangas, 5 hummingbirds, 6 penguins, 7 Pichu, 8 pokemon mcdonalds figures, 9 Oshawott, 10 Pokeball, 11 hugs, and 12 kisses

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

More attack and ability names revealed, plus Twitter

Pokemon Black & White — 08 February, 2011

First, a quick reminder that the wi-fi event to obtain Raikou, Entei and Suicune is now underway! This week you can get a shiny Raikou in Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver by selecting Mystery Gift from the title screen, then Nintendo WFC. The event is open to America, Europe and Australia. It may also be available in other areas too so give it a try!

Second, if you use the social networking site Twitter, you can now follow us @pokemondb! I will post regular Pokemon news updates, particularly small newsbites that aren't major enough to do a post on the front page. Plus any random facts or Pokemon goodies I stumble across.

http://twitter.com/pokemondb

And the main part of this update - more move and ability names have been confirmed by various sources:

Vengeance is now Retaliate
Boiling Water is now Scald
Evil Eye is now Hex
Healing Beam is now Heal Pulse
Sing A Round is now Round
Electric Ball is now Electro Ball
Wood Horn is now Horn Leech
Cheer Up is now Work Up
Flame Burst and Dragon Tail stay the same

Japan’s BW5 in March: ‘Dragon Blade’ and ‘Dragon Blast’

Japan’s fifth Black and White set will be released on March 16th and will be split into two sub-sets: Dragon Blade and Dragon Blast. As their names suggest, the Dragon-type will be featured again and Dragon-type Pokemon-EX will appear. Two 30-card decks will also be released alongside the sets featuring Hydreigon and Garchomp. 2012 is the year of the dragon, so it’s no wonder Pokemon Card Laboratory is pumping up the Dragon-type!

On April 20th, a new “Beginning Set” will be released containing Pokemon from every region, unlike the previous Beginning Sets which were simply re-releases of the same cards. On the same day, two new Battle Strength Decks will also be released, though their contents are currently unknown. We’ll bring you more information in the coming months once we have more specifics!

So, apparently some new Pokemon games were released or something...

Site Updates — 17 March, 2011

Ha! It's been a little quiet here for the last few days. As you can probably guess, since Pokemon Black & White were recently released, I've been quite busy playing! I have Pokemon Black and it is excellent - a lot of the gameplay is familiar but the adventure has a little more 'epicness' to it. There are lovely touches to the graphics, music and other details throughout the game. Game Freak put a lot of effort in this time.

Most of my time on the site has been spent handling the massive surge in traffic we are experiencing at the moment. Visitor numbers have quadrupled since the games were released, and are even higher at weekends. We've got a grasp on everything now, but if the site gets a bit slow at times, please bear with us. Thanks for choosing Pokemon Database as your information source! :-)

On to the actual update - I've added two new pages to our Black & White section. The first describes some of the changes in wild encounters - most notably the shaking spots that you see sometimes. The second is a guide to the new seasons mechanic, explaining what changes between seasons.

Shaking spots & encounters guide
Seasons guide

I have also been making several changes to ability and move descriptions to add more detail and clarify points. As usual, if you spot any mistakes anywhere on the site, please let me know on meta-Pokebase here.

New game-specific pages

Site Updates — 02 January, 2011

I also made a change that was requested through meta-Pokebase, to keep images show or hidden. By default, when you go to the stat Pokedex (and now many other pages as well), the Pokemon icons are hidden. If you click the link near the top of the page, it will permanently turn on the icons across the various pages. It may slow the pages down slightly (if you are using an older browser) but so far I haven't had any problems while testing it.

Finally, another small change - on our various tables across the site, like the stat Pokedex, the header now scrolls with the page, so you can always see which column in which - useful!

'Pokemon Gray' domain registered by Nintendo! Er... 3 years ago!

General News — 22 October, 2011

Web browser I don't normally do this but there has been a lot of shoddy journalism going round recently, even by organizations like IGN who should know better.

The story is that the domain name PokemonGray.com has been registered by a company called Melbourne IT, who do brand management and also happened to register PokemonBlackWhite.com for Nintendo, the official site for the latest games. Most of the articles credit Nintendo Buzz, who reported the same story two months ago.

This is basically where the reports ended. What they neglect to mention is that the domain has not been registered only recently; PokemonGray.com was first registered nearly 3 years ago! November 19th, 2008 to be precise.

Having said that, it's possible that the domain was registered by someone else initially, then taken over by Nintendo - still, the latest it could have been under Nintendo's control is the last registration date - September 11th, 2010. (Incidentally, PokemonBlackWhite.com was first registered on January 1st, 2010, about three months before the games' names were even announced in Japan.)

What has also failed to be reported is that Nintendo/Melbourne IT own literally thousands of domain names, plenty of which relate to Pokemon. They include PokemonBrown.com, PokemonOpal.com, PokemonTopaz.com, PokemonAmethyst.com and PokemonCrimson.com and trademarks for most of those names.

So whichever way you look at it, this is not news. The existence of a domain name or trademark is no proof that a Pokemon game of said name will be released. Many companies regularly register speculative domains to protect their brand from domain squatters and the like. The next Pokemon game may very well be Pokemon Gray but equally Nintendo may decide the name sounds too dull and plump for something like Pokemon Rainbow (which by the way is not registered).

Mamoswine and Banette are being given away in the Pokemon Global Link through special promotions. When you log in at pokemon-gl.com go to Promotions and enter the passwords below.

The Banette is a special giveaway for Halloween (although the event lasts for several months) and it has its hidden ability Cursed Body, plus a special move Cotton Guard which Banette doesn't normally learn. The password is NPCHARACTER if you're in USA, and BANETYahooGames for those in Europe.

The Mamoswine, only available in Europe at this time, has its hidden ability Thick Fat, but no special moves. Password is MAMNintendoOfficial.

There have also been many C-Gear skins released in recent months, which I'll post about shortly.

3D Pokedex app to be released on Nintendo 3DS

General News — 02 June, 2011

Nintendo have announced they are to release a 3D Pokedex app for the new 3DS console. Named - wait for it - Pokédex 3D, it will feature all the Pokemon from the Unova region in full 3D.

The app will allow the user to view Pokemon in 3D and rotate them. It also lists standard Pokedex details such as their stats, evolutions and moves.

However, by default you only start with 16 Pokemon and must collect the rest by scanning QR codes, using SpotPass or by trading data with friends via StreetPass. It's unknown whether the first 493 Pokemon will become available at any point.

Pokédex 3D will be available June 7th, once the Nintendo eShop becomes available through a system update. More pictures below.

UPDATE: dedicated page for Pokedex 3D now available here.

English names for Black & White starters revealed

Pokemon Black & White — 23 November, 2010

Nintendo has revealed the English names of a few pokemon from the upcoming Pokemon Black and Pokemon White games.

Tsutarja, the Grass starter, will be known as Snivy. This is mostly likely a combination of the words 'snake' and 'ivy'.
Pokabu, the Fire starter, will be known as Tepig, a cross between 'tepid' and 'pig'. Of course, it's evolution is far from tepid.
Mijumaru, the Water starter, will be known as Oshawott. The name has references to 'otter', 'water' and possibly 'ocean'.

The region, previously known as Isshu in the Japanese version, will be called Unova.

As previously confirmed, the main legendaries in the games are Reshiram and Zekrom, same names as in the Japanese version. Reshiram's ability is called Turboblaze and Zekrom's Teravolt.

Nintendo has also unveiled their new dedicated website, PokemonBlackWhite.com. However, it's very light on details since they are choosing to release information in dribs and drabs instead of telling us what we all already know...

Psypoke Idol Final Scores, Psydex Updates

Posted by Jigglypuff on 25 Sep 2011 at 6:45pm PDTThe 3rd year of Psypoke Idol has ended. First, it was Mew. Then it was Lugia. The third Pokemon to claim victory in Psypoke Idol is...

Typhlosion with 3.7036 stars. The rest of the round broke down as follows:
Charizard with 3.6902 stars, Dragonite with 3.6686 stars, Umbreon with 3.6371 stars, Tyranitar with 3.6249 stars, Mew with 3.5934 stars, Arcanine with 3.5845 stars, Blaziken with 3.5575 stars, Rayquaza with 3.5574 stars, and Espeon with 3.5546 stars finishing out the Top 10.

The middle tier were Flygon with 3.5522 stars, Lugia with 3.5397 stars, Lucario with 3.5354 stars, Mewtwo with 3.5071 stars, Blastoise with 3.5024 stars, Swampert with 3.4630 stars, Lapras with 3.4551 stars, Metagross with 3.4426 stars, Latios with 3.4253 stars, and Scizor with 3.4105 stars.

The Bottom 10 were Articuno with 3.3978 stars, Salamence with 3.3967 stars, Zekrom with 3.3903 stars, Gengar with 3.3800 stars, Sceptile with 3.3700 stars, Venusaur with 3.3669 stars, Feraligatr with 3.3581 stars, Zapdos with 3.2949 stars, Ho-oh with 3.2317 stars, and Kyogre with 3.2232 stars.

In more significant news, Frost has rewritten several of the entries in the TechDex for accuracy and proper use of the English language. We've also fixed the issue of the Body Style data for Gen V never being imported into the Psydex, so all the Gen V Pokemon will be accurate in that regard now as well.

So, now that Psypoke Idol is over, how do you feel about the result? Who did you want to win? Who do you think will win the competition next time?

Sweet Typhlosion has always been my favorite, I actually completed completed the Hoenn Pokedex on emerald just to get one in 3rd gen.Well, I can't say I like Typhlosion much, but I can respect it because it evolved from Quilava. :) I'm happy that Blaziken, Arcanine, Umbreon, and Espeon all made the top 10, though! :DI am very delighted to hear that Typhlosion made it :)Hey so when are you guys going to finish the Item list in the Black and White section? You don't have any of the hold items...Charizard didn't win!!! Epic!!!
Another fire-starter but meh... Typhlosion's ok
Well, I'm just happy because Charizard didn't win so yeah -and I'm very surprised! welll i didnt expect it to be so soon...
YAY for loss of charzard

and @Spoinkable: just wait frost and co. probably have alot on thier minds. (ps miracle seed is a held item :P)

@Spoinkable OK, that's a genuinely strange bug. The information's been there the whole time, but the page was just not set up to display it. Fixed now. Thanks.so...any idea on a keldeo event in the us anytime soon? Are you also aware that the only locations displaying on the items page are those from wild pokemon and shops?

ALSO TYPHLOSION OMG - don't mind it but hate the sprite - can't believe it won :@

Espeon should of had it...
But at least no Charizard, heheheh...Thanks Jigglypuff!! =) Sorry to be "that guy" who posts irrelevant things.

CONGRATS TYPHLOSION! He's my favorite starter pre-Gen IV, and I couldn't be happier =)
Well, I'd be happier if it was Spoink, but I suppose I'll just have to keep dreaming.

Typhlosion? Really? :(

Between Charizard and Typhlosion, I would've picked Charizard. Why? Because Charizard as a final evolution is epic. Typhlosion I always preferred less than sleeker, much cooler Quilava.

But if I really reeeally had to pick, Blaziken owns all. :)

@Flannery - I agree to everything you just said. :)@Majin Pichu: Until there's been a event for Keldeo in Japan (which probably won't be until next year), there won't be a Keldeo event in the US. Nintendo won't even acknowledge Keldeo's existence, much less give it to anyone, until there is some sort of media (movie, etc.) that "invents" it. The same thing will happen with Genesect and Meloetta.

Please be patient, they will get around to it eventually.

@Flannery + frenchhorn95
And me agreeing makes 3. :)I agree too, except that Charizard is my favourite fully-evolved Fire-type starter.

I'm not sure I like any of the starters or their evolutions enough to give them five stars in the finals, though.

boo nintendo. They are waiting too long. the games have been out for a long time and people are going to lose interest before they release those 3. but thanks @flaming_wuzzle.Hmm, Electro Ball on Mewtwo. I guess I can try to make it work. Oh well it is pretty cool as a Flawless Timid. At first I thought "huh...what?" and then it occured to me that maybe HGSS influenced the voting, reminding people of Gen II's existence.I'm a bit confused by the various Month of Zoroark events. Did I somehow miss the US event, or has there not been one yet?@damaia,

I'm sorry, but you did miss the U.S. 'Month of Zoroark' event... It ended Sunday.

@Majin Pichu If they knew, they'd tell us.
Oh, crud. A fire starter won. [sarcasm]Did not see that coming at all.[/sarcasm]
I'm glad it ain't Charizard, though. Last year it almost was. .____.Last year we had the Great Pokemon Character Tournament, I thought. It was almost Charizard this year, too. :/

I'd like to see a Shiny Pokemon Beauty Contest next year.

Magic coat/Role play are still incorrect on many pokes in the genIV tutor lists :p

Never would of guessed Typhlosion to win Idol.

what is so special about typhlosion?I can dig it. Typhlosion IS the best Fire starter ever.@Shade2075 ever heard of pokemon colosseum or XD?@Flannery why in a main series game would you prefer a pokemon over its evolution? without some very few exceptions such as Light Ball Pikachu and stuff@JsXtm its up to debate but there's no denying Typhlosion's awesomenessThis tournament set some firsts. it's the first time a fire pokemon won or any non psychic type. its the first time a non legendary won. it's the first time a pokemon that hasnt been an important pokemon in a movie won. its the first time a pokemon won that has been owned by a character in the anime.
the next tournament should be about pokemon moves. explosion FTW! maybe not lol...@vaporterra
What are you talking about? Last year, Charizard, a fire type non-legendary that isn't important in a movie (maybe the one with Entei idk) and is owned by an anime character won. Did you completely miss out on that one, or what? Also, Flannery obviously prefers Quilava over Typhlosion because of it's looks, not because of it's battle ability,. There was no need to flame her.@twistedturtwig Charizard did not win last year, Lugia did. So vaporterra is right.@twistedturtwig - Haha... "Flame her" That's punny. :)@twisty
You might want to reconsider that...
(Also, try to be a bit nicer, you come across very patronising sometimes)@twistedturtwig lugia won last time. and i didnt know that flannery liked quilava because of its looks thats why i was asking.Whoops. Didn't mean to turn this into a "heated" debate! :O

@vaporterra Er, yes. I am taken by looks. That's why I prefer Quilava over Typhlosion. :P

OMG!! typhlosion is like my fave pokemon of all time!! it even surpasses celebi! relieved charizard didnt win now im away to see if i can find a site as epic as this...Whoops, sorry about that. I wasn't in my right mind. I feel like a jerk. Sorry vaporterra.@raven90 that was my starter for soulsilverYou must login to post a comment

PokeBase gets a redesign

Site Updates — 21 May, 2011

I have made a set of changes to our Pokemon question and answer knowledgebase, PokeBase. First up I overhauled the design, creating a fresher and brighter look.

New PokeBase design

There is also now a rich text editor, to allow a little more flair in posts. Bold, italic, lists, quotations, links and images can all be used where appropriate. User avatars are also available. Currently the system uses a service called Gravatar (instructions here) but I am looking to make this simpler in the future.

As part of the upgrade I rewrote the chat room from scratch to fix the various bugs we had with double posting and so on. I didn't get a chance to finish everything I needed on the chat room but there will be improvements soon!

Nintendo Events, Global Link, New Pokemon Center, TCG

Nintendo Events, Global Link, New Pokemon Center, TCG [permalink]Posted by Jigglypuff on 22 Nov 2011 at 8:51pm PST Updated on 24 Nov 2011 at 9:11am PSTI've added a bunch more Nintendo Events to the list. A Croagunk has been announced for nearly worldwide distribution, and more details in regards to the previously announced Blissey and Altaria have been added.

The Tohoku area of Japan, which was hit by the large earthquake and tsunami earlier this year, will be giving away a Snivy at the new Pokemon Center Store opening there.

Time is running out to Vote to Befriend a Pokemon. Currently Arceus is still in the lead, with Ditto in second and Mew in third.

Frost updated the TCG section with the recently released Noble Victories a while ago, too. Check out Frost's latest Psyblog if you want to see most of the cards of the set, as he did a booster box opening for Noble Victories as well.

EVERYONE BETTER VOTE FOR DITTO!!!!!!
Besides he's suffered through 4 generations of gimmickyness, and we don't want a fifth one...VOTE FOR WHO YOU WANT and I will not be voting for ditto anytime soon. I just have no need for one.Guys, MUDKIP is in second place now. Arceus first, Ditto third, and mew fourth. I say vote for Ditto. But time is ever-so dwindling and things look bad for anyone who doesn't want Arceus to win.....yeah I saw that and it just seemed to happen over night from the times I had checked before Mudkip was in tenth. I wonder how close the votes are for the ten then...Why do people vote for arceus? Theres reasons for voting for all the other pokemon, but i just cant see one in arceus. Its pointless.1.) Gee. I always wanted another Croagunk.

2.) SO I HERD U LIKE SHATTRING TEH DREMES OF COMPETETAVE BATTLRS?

@Griffinwolf one answer pokedex entry
@Twisted Turtwig the amount of times that they've Upated the Dream World it will more than likely Ditto will become availible at some point in time no need to go blaming people

(Also wasn't voting for Arceus but if it fills that blank spot in my pokedex I'm happy)

If ditto gets to be top by the end I am totally going to grab all of the dittos off the GTS just because some one is going to put there's on it.

Also I think ditto will be baned Perty quick or at least DW ditto will be and it is not that good for in game play. But I don't mind if it wins.

Oh and I looked at swamperts DW ability and I thought damp was out dated?

Sorry I looked after I posted ^ that.

Somehow, Mudkip is now in 2nd, and Ditto is now 3rd, but Arceus is still 1st.so i herd 2 mani ppl liek mudkipz :(

i also herd dat 2 many 5 yer oldz dont no teh pwr of dito with DW

Maybe lots of people just liek Mudkipz, haven't you herd?
Yeah, its ability is pretty useless with those moves receiving halved power. But ... can you imagine this generation's power being allowed to have a base 400 or 500 power attack? There would be no hope.Victini Event tomorrow, gonna be nice to RNG that sucker :)RNG? I really need a acronym dictionary... The Victini is amazing though RNG Abuse is the correct term. It's basically starting your game at the right time to get perfect Pokemon. I got mine 10 minutes after it was released Naive 30/30/30/31/31/31 :DHow do I get the Victini event?Arceus won...........Oh well now people have Arceus. Ditto will more than likely be released soon any ways.arceus hmm interesting he it fils my pokedex so i'm not mad
but the pokemon i realy want is a keldeo so i can unlock the attack move for the trio. There's a Japanese wifi event going on as of I believe the 12th giving out Tornadus/Thundurus, whichever one is not already in your game, to celebrate the episode that aired in Japan. It's going until Jan 10th. Just thought people would like to know.Oh, and I'm very sorry to double-post, but there will be a new game revealed in the Jan 14th issue of Corocoro.
They say it will be big. I think they used the language "world first" or something. No, thanks you very much spoinkable! now i have something new and awesome to be excited about! :)Mamoswine is now available via Global Link in the US. Password is POKEMONDOTCOM.You must login to post a comment

Nintendo Events and Social Media

Posted by Jigglypuff on 8 Nov 2011 at 7:38pm PSTFirst off, the more official news.

Until the end of the month, players can Vote to Befriend a Pokemon on the official site.

Meanwhile in Japan, Global Link users will have the opportunity to obtain an Altaria and a Blissey later this month. Shoppers can also vote in stores on a mascot Pokemon which will be available for download early next year.

Starting next month, the Nintendo WiFi Connection will be giving away a special Victini, the same as was distributed in Japan for the release of the 14th movie(s).

On a related note, the V for Victini Sweepstakes began yesterday. Weekly prizes include toys and TCG tins, and the grand prize adds a 3DS and Black & White!

Now, as for us, we're expanding our social media efforts again. We now offer a Google+ Page that you can circle to keep up with us. This is in addition to our other pages on Facebook and Twitter, which will continue to be updated as well. The options to share our news stories will be updated accordingly.

Thanks for the update jigglypuff. It's 3:30 in the morning and i have school, but stupid me wanted to check up for news. XD
Anyway I'm really hoping to win the pokemon sweepstakes...personally i've never even won a stupid game of Bingo in my life, so this would be a first. Good luck to you all in the sweepstakes, though. :)
And lastly i really want the 3DS. Looking forward to playing zelda and mario. But i will NEVER stop playing pokemon mystery dungeon games and all of their precious awesomness :'DLooking forward to that Victini, even though I already have one. :3Must. Have. Victini!!!!!!! I. Will. Win. That. Contest.Looking forward to the events for the rest of the legends fron gen V.Okay, i checked the 'vote to befriend a pokemon' rankings. Here's how it came out:
1. Arceus
2. Ditto (yay!)
3. Mew
4. Deoxys
5. Darkrai
6. Celebi
7. Raquaza
8. Shaymin
9. Pikachu
10. Jirachi
I don't think anything under ranking 5 will have much of a chance to rise to number 1 by the end of the month. But then again, who knows?
I'm really hoping for Ditto to win. It has an ability you can only get in the dream world (imposter), and if Ditto wins, we can all have a Ditto with that ability.(please vote for Ditto.) Why are people voting for Ditto? I know about it's ability but I don't understand why people are voting for Ditto. It's ability transforms. Why are some people voting for Ditto?
Go, Deoxys :)I'm not trying to get people mad.Because people in America actually want something good. Another Legend like Arceus, Deoxys, Mew, etc would just be boring. We already lost hopes for Zapdos(Which would have been amazing to use in the Rain) now all we have left to go for is Ditto, as everyone else outside of the top 5 right now probably isn't going to win. Ditto is the best choice right now out of the top 5 pokemon, because Ditto will actually be usable for Battling to help scout teams and revenge kill.I hope to complete my dex for once so unubtainable by normal means legendaries are on my priorities list Mew, Jirachi, and Celebi, where only marked off about a year ago. so I understand where Oshachu is coming from.
Ditto with instant transform is cool but its not on my priority list (that and with all new areas showing up it will probably be ubtainable through dream world sooner or later.)@Ditto Cravers,

You can catch Ditto in B/W at the Giant Chasm Crater, therefor, I believe that we should vote for unobtainable Pokémon. (I.E. Mew, Jirachi, Celebi, Etc., Etc.)

Don't take me wrong in saying this, but do not vote for Arceus.

Piper out!

@Poke-piper The reason people are voting for ditto is for his new ability- imposter.Attention people who don't know about Ditto's Dream World Ability, Imposter:
It's an automatic Transform. As soon as Ditto is sent onto the field, it turns into an EXACT copy (bar held item and HP stat) of the opponent. By the way, this includes any stat boosts.
If you give Ditto a Choice Scarf, it would be a gamble, but it would ALWAYS be faster than the opponent unless it also had a Choice Scarf, which you can probably predict.
Ditto is now the perfect revenge killer against sweepers.
Let's say you're going up against a Haxorus that used Dragon Dance or Swords Dance a couple times, Ditto would copy its stats After the boosts, which means you would be at a tie for power. However, because Ditto is now 50% faster after the speed boost, just Outrage Hax to death and BAM, your opponent now has a terrible chance of winning.
Arceus is the exact same. As always. And so is Mew. Sure, they're cool and we can already obtain Ditto, but everyone who's competitive wants this as an option SO bOf course, that thinking completely ignores those of us that want to complete the PokeDex in our games and have no interest in competitive battling...@frenchhorn95,

I completely agree with your thinking! Although, I do enjoy a good ol' fashioned battle every once and a while! See, I even have some sentimental values with Mew, and I would love to have one that is legit.

VOTE FOR MEW!

Spoinkable, i agree with you 100%. But i also agree with anyone who thinks arceus should not win. It's the same as always, and a bunch of people are offering wifi trade for arceus already. And if you havnt already gotten some events arceus's or gotten one from a friend, surely you can trade one from your old game? The other choices are clearly better.(ditto i think being the most useful with its ability) I would rather you vote for magikarp than arceus. As the rankings go down, it becomes less likely for that pokemon to be the winner. Therefore, if everyone who hasn't voted yet votes for ditto, its very likely it will win. And then, not only will many people get their #1 choice, lots of people will be happy arceus didn't win. If the rest of the non-voters vote for mew, deoxys, darkrai etc, there's a chance they wont rise to winner and will stack up #2 instead, leaving arceus winner. :(
Please vote for ditto.Well i'm speechless! :O right after i sent that comment about me rather having you vote for magikarp than arceus, i checked the rankings again and MAGIKARP HAS MADE IT TO NUMBER 6. Anyone who was hoping for a pokemon ranked 5 or higher, well, those pokemon are ranked the same as before. It isn't the same for rankings 6 and under though:
6. Magikarp
7. Celebi
8. Rayquaza
9. Pikachu
10. Mudkip
I know you can all check the rankings yourselves, but just in case you don't wanna, here are some extra rankings:
11. Shaymin
12. Charizard
13. Jirachi
14. Lugia
15. Mewtwogriffinwolf has discovered the phenomenon known as "internet trolls", I believe.I voted Dunsparce for the befriend thing.
e_ePlease note that the Victini Mystery Gift in Japan beginning 3rd December also covers the U.K., (I got it on both of my games this morning), plus possibly Europe and Australia. ok so im having problems getting tha victini can someone please help?
